A Touch of Trey: Grateful Dead & Phish Tribute Night

Local Austin Grateful Dead and Phish cover band “Touch of Trey” played Friday night at 3Ten to an energetic crowd ready for a few sets of live music with songs from a couple of their favorite bands. They opened the night with a relatively newer Phish tune “Everything’s Right” which had just the right vibe on a night when things felt a little bit more right again than they have in a while. From there they went into the Dead classic Scarlet Begonias, and though they didn’t quite alternate Phish and Dead songs the entire night, the set mostly consisted of back and forth between the two. There were also some interesting twists that mixed the two together with segues like “Feel Like A Stranger > Mike’s Song” and “Help > Slip > Tweezer (Slip > Tweezer)”.

The band consists of Josh Pearson (guitar/vocals), Keith Laudieri (drums/vocals), (Andy Harn bass/vocals), Rex Simmons (keyboard/vocals) who weren’t afraid to veer away from strictly popular material and included fine choices such as ‘NICU’, ‘Fee’, ‘Slave to the Traffic Light’, ‘Shade’ and ‘Brown Eyed Women’ to go along with a number of other crowd-pleasers and fun selections.
