August is here already, and as the nights now get longer, one more push for sun-drenched fun arrives at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the form of the Never-Ending Summer Tour featuring Gym Class Heroes, The Offspring, and 311! Gym Class Heroes was the first to set off the festivities, marking their return to the National spot for the first time in nearly 5 years. Playing through old favorites like Cupid’s Chokehold, Stereo Hearts, and Ass Back Home, they set the perfect light-hearted but high impact atmosphere for the evening. After that, it was The Offspring’s turn at the plate to whip the crowd into a punk-induced frenzy. The Offspring is a complete powerhouse of high-energy Rock, inciting circle pits for songs like Want You Bad, Staring At The Sun, You’re Gonna Go Far Kid, and Bad Habit. One of the most distinct moments from the entire night was the Piano rendition of Gone Away, their somber song delivered in a sweet, yet haunting fashion. At the end of the evening 311 finally took the stage to serenade the crowd with some groovy rhythm. 311’s style incorporates a wide variety of styles and influences from Funk to reggae, hip-hop, and even Hard Rock and Metal thrown in for good measure. Starting off on the hit song Come Original, the band played through fan-favorite hits such as Don’t Stay Home, Amber, and Transistor as well as the newer material from the latest album, Mosaic. With a commanding stage-presence, they worked through nearly 30 years of their history and ending on the Hip-Hop and Metal laced hit, Down.
