Alkaline Trio with Together Pangea
Emo’s Austin, August 4, 2018
By Michael Mullenix

Kicking off their US Tour in Texas, last Saturday, August 4th, Alkaline Trio arrived at Emo’s in Austin for a Sentimentalist Punk Rock Extravaganza.  Immediately after the lights went down, the band took their spots on stage and launched into their fifteen-year-old hit, We’ve Had Enough.  Alkaline Trio’s strength is derived from their masterful songwriting.  Fan-favorites like She Lied To The FBI, Mercy Me, I Wanna Be A Warhol and Every Thug Needs A Girl are still energetic without the need for gimmicky Rock N Roll flare because of how charged the band’s musicianship is.  Singer Matt Skiiba has a measured, cool demeanor that allows him to effectively sell old, punk standards like Private Eye as well as the new, more experimental material of the new album, Is This Thing Cursed?  After a night spent with an Austin audience singing along in pitch-perfect unison, Alkaline Trio closed out the evening with their slow-jam, Radio.
