The Central Texas SPCA, a privately-funded, no-kill animal shelter serving the Greater Austin area, hosted its tenth annual “Barktoberfest” fundraiser on Saturday, September 29th at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. All proceeds were in support the Central Texas SPCA’s spay/neuter and adoption programs.
This family and dog-friendly event featured a 2K dog walk, dog talent show, dog costume contest, food, live music and more. There was s a $25 registration fee for animal lovers and their dogs to participate in the 2K walk. Although it rained a little during the festivities, the event was a huge success and we look forward to next year’s fundraiser.
Octavia Gibson, the Central Texas SPCA’s board president and a shelter volunteer, said “It’s a wonderful chance for adults and kids alike to have fun with both their own animals and shelter pets, and to learn about the shelter.” I couldn’t agree more! We entered our dog Mojo and the kids had a blast parading him alongside the other dogs in their very creative costumes. He rightfully took 2nd place to a pug with an outstanding costume (pictured below) ~ a well deserved 1st place win indeed.
