Friday night (June 25th), saw the return of Austin’s rising star, Black Joe Lewis, to the Haute Spot in Cedar Park. The energy and excitement were palpable as the house lights went down and the Central Texas concertgoers packed in on the dance floor welcoming the band to the stage. Black Joe Lewis picked up his guitar, made his way to the spotlight, and serenaded the crowd with his smash hit, Suit or Soul. What makes Lewis and his band so unique is how they embody the wide array of Austin influences, mixing Funk, Blues, and Soul with a powerful classic Rock N Roll base. The results are infectious dance grooves like the disco swing of Booty City or the soulful wailing in the song PTP. There is a traditional 12-bar Blues measure mixed with Big Band production in the cheekily named crowd-pleaser, Bitch, I Love You. This was also the song that gave Lewis an extended guitar solo where he even plays with his teeth. Performing for over a solid-packed hour, Black Joe Lewis brought the evening to a close with rousing cheers on the songs Wasted and Golem.
