Broadway in Austin will kick off the new 2014/15 Broadway Musical season by bringing the award-winning hit Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to Bass Concert Hall October 7-12, 2014. Texas Performing Arts commenced this season with a concert by Jason Mraz and Raining Jane earlier this week and the eight upcoming Broadway musical performances are truly outstanding, Broadway in Austin will also present Dirty Dancing, Anything Goes, Mamma Mia!, Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles, Once, Jersey Boys, and Annie.
Based on the Oscar-winning 1991 film adapted from the age-old fairy tale, this audience favorite musical production is sure to delight fans of all ages. Written by Linda Woolverton, Disney’s Beauty and the Beastfeatures the animated film’s Academy Award-winning score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, with additional songs composed by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell placed by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
