Chelsea Manning sat down for a discussion with Sally Singer, Vogue/Condé Nast Creative Digital Director, on Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018, at SXSW in Austin, TX for a discussion about her life and experiences. Manning changed the course of history when she released hundreds of thousands of government documents. Less than a year after being released from prison, she joins Vogue’s Sally Singer to discuss her new life, radical politics, and the consequences of unchecked state power.

Manning is a technologist and network security expert whose actions have shown the power of individuals to change the world through bravery, conscience, and determination. She speaks on the social, technological and economic ramifications of Artificial Intelligence, and on the practical applications of machine learning. She is a vocal advocate for government transparency and queer and transgender rights as @xychelsea on Twitter and through her op-ed columns for The Guardian and The New York Times. She is a Democratic candidate for US Senate in Maryland.
