The Moody Center in Austin hosted a night of raw energy as the $uicideboy$ brought their Grey Day Tour 2024 to town on August 17. The dynamic duo from New Orleans, Ruby da Cherry and $crim, captivated a packed house with their unique blend of dark, introspective lyrics and bass-heavy beats, setting the stage for a wild night.

The evening burst into life with a lineup of powerful opening acts. Ekkstacy’s genre-blending mix of indie and lo-fi created a haunting atmosphere that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. HAARPER then turned up the energy with his aggressive, trap-infused beats and rapid-fire delivery, igniting the crowd into a bouncing frenzy.

Shakewell continued the momentum, performing hits like “Leglock” with a commanding stage presence, demonstrating why he’s become a staple in the underground rap scene. Pouya, with his high-speed verse and confident flow, joined the stage later, performing crowd favorites like “Suicidal Thoughts in the Back of the Cadillac.” Denzel Curry closed out the openers with a fiery set, delivering his politically charged lyrics and high-energy tracks such as “Ultimate,” ensuring the crowd was hyped and ready for the $uicideboy$.

After a wait that had the audience on edge, $uicideboy$ stormed the stage, opening with “Lone Wolf Hysteria,” a track that immediately sent shockwaves through the crowd. The duo’s setlist, a carefully curated mix of fan favorites and new material, was met with thunderous applause. Tracks like “Misery In Waking Hours” and “Mental Clarity Is a Luxury I Can’t Afford” showcased their knack for blending confessional lyrics with gritty production, while “Paris” and “Antarctica” ignited massive sing-alongs, demonstrating the deep connection they have with their fans.

One of the night’s standout moments came when Pouya returned to the stage to perform “South Side $uicide,” a collaboration that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Another highlight was when Shakewell joined for “Whole Lotta Grey,” amplifying the energy even further. As the night continued, the crowd remained enthralled, whether the duo was delivering high-energy bangers like “2ND HAND” or more introspective tracks like “…And to Those I Love, Thanks for Sticking Around.”

The Austin stop of the Grey Day Tour was an unforgettable experience. With a powerful lineup of opening acts and a relentless performance from the $uicideboy$, the night was a joyful celebration of their distinctive sound and the community they’ve developed in the underground rap scene.
