On Wednesday, May 1, 2013, four-time Grammy Award nominee and world-renowned singer-songwriter Jewel appeared in a live webcast performance at the world-famous Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, TX. Jewel performed songs off of her recent Greatest Hits album, such as “Two Hearts Breaking,” a new track off the album, and favorites like “You Were Meant For Me” and “Foolish Games.” Jewel’s career spans 20-plus-years and has crossed musical genres as a multi-faceted artist and dynamic live performer. With an abundant amount of success as a singer-songwriter – including more than 27 million albums sold, Jewel’s latest album, Greatest Hits, features a collection of her most well-known songs as well as two new duets with Kelly Clarkson and The Pistol Annies. On May 27, 2013, she will also star as June Carter Cash in the film Ring of Fire, based on June’s life.
Jewel stepped onstage surrounded by a variety of Taylor acoustic guitars and played for two hours without any backup instrumentalists. She looked beautiful and her mood was funny, casual, and very open with the ACL Live audience. After her second song, Jewel confessed that since she now had ‘mom hands’, she had to put super glue on all of her fingertips before the performance in order to replace the needed calluses she requires to play her guitar. She laughed explaining that this trick seemed to have backfired because she was afraid that the audience could see the superglue chipping off and flying into the air when she strummed her guitar. Before each song, Jewel opened up about her life, her past, her failures, and her mistakes in order to explain where her mind was at as a songwriter. Jewel is the whole package as an artist and her candid honesty only makes us adore and appreciate her music more.
