Saturday was fortunately void of the wet weather with the sun making partial introductions to the day. The show started with CVBZ at Coors Light’s Rowdy stage for those with BASK entry, while the rest of us were relegated to watching the two big screens outside trying the stop the urge to fist pump while walking the nearly half mile from one side of the stadium to the other. Local bands had a chance to showcase their talents while sharing stages with top acts, and true to the previous day’s form, all artists were at their best. D and Chi brought the local musical flare of Bishop Arts in Dallas to the Ford Pegasus stage while Chef Kent Rathbun of Dallas’ Imoto introduced the audience to the definition of chicken oysters and his red curry coconut soup. Texas act and Willie Nelson’s scion Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real jammed out while legendary music producer Paul Okenfold proved he was worth watching and listening to on the big screen if you didn’t’ have access to BASK.
If ever there was a day that brought birds of different feathers together, Saturday was that day. How else do you get Violent Femmes fans to be introduced to the music of The Him, or Flo Rida fans to partake in the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd? And as the Blake Eyed Peas closed out their show, rebel flag t-shirts were on mass production for attendees moving inside for Kid Rocks grand finale of the evening.
