Hurricane Nita blew into San Antonio unrivaled in the amount of chaos that ensued onstage with her guitar prowess.
As with any veteran to the stage, especially one who has shared it with such heavy hitters as Alice Cooper, you would naturally expect them to be able to put on a show but Strauss’s stage presence was so effortlessly choreographed that you can’t help but see that she herself is electric in nature. And her focus was on the show she put forth for the fans – it was the emphasis of everyone up there, to perform with such high energy both on their respective instruments and across the stage, and to do so with the dedication, flow, and stamina comparable to that put forth in her own Body Shred fitness challenge. But her own shredding was far from any challenge for the woman who has worked so hard in her artistry to defy all previous gender boundaries in her genre – her presence was so captivating that there really was no separation from the sound she produced on her guitar, it was as if she simply breathed it. Nita Strauss is indeed a guitar virtuoso who not only owns her craft but the stage that she so expertly expresses it on as well. Controlled Chaos is her own quest as a solo artist and this show was the first time she had toured San Antonio in that manner but she spared no musical expense paying homage to Texas’ own Vinnie Paul on the eve of the 1-year anniversary of his death with her own rendition of Pantera’s “Domination.” Less the covers of Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen,” “Aces High” which she has covered endlessly from Iron Maiden, and her interpretation of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On,” Strauss dominated the set with the majority of her own tunes from her instrumental album Controlled Chaos which showcases the vast extent of her talents that have led her to become known as the depth of artist she truly deserves.
Gaining her education on stage throughout the years shows through in Nita Strauss’s performance in every positive sense – she adapts her own energy to that of the crowd and shreds from the heart, letting her own musical intuition guide her into all she gifts to her fans. As she blows in with almost no warning of her power, she also leaves having had a definite impact on what that control – even in the throes of chaos – can do in reshaping the landscape and there is no doubt she has been a direct hit in the world of heavy metal.
