Tuesday night, September 24th, the co-headlining tour of Metalcore veterans All That Remains and the Italian Gothic phenomena, Lacuna Coil, came through Houston’s White Oak Music Hall for a night of unbridled Heavy Metal. Up first was Lacuna Coil who took the stage with their hit Blood, Tears, Dust, and whipped the crowd into a frenzy. The two vocalists, Christina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro, worked in tandem offering levels of complexities to songs like Our Truth, Nothing Stands in Our Way and My Demons. New to the performance was the ghoulish costume design and face-paint of the instrumentalists who now look otherworldly, selling the band’s visage of a world beyond the darkness. Closing out the night was All That Remains who took the stage to the opening screams of their breakout hit, This Calling. The crowd immediately erupted into mosh pits as the band conducted the carnage through crowd-pleasers like Chiron, This Probably Won’t End Well, The Last Time, and Madness. The band’s lineup has changed again with the inclusion of Jason Richardson, the fame of the band Chelsea Grin, following the death of the band’s founding guitarist, Oli Herbert. To his credit, the young guitarist comports himself admirably, and his command of the leads are on full display especially in the newer material like Everything’s Wrong and Wasteland. Of course, the band is one of the most well-oiled machines on the scene today, boasting a pedigree of members from some of the most influential members of the Massachusetts Metal community. Ultimately the band did not formally set off an encore, but instead played straight through to the end with the ballad What If I Were Nothing, and the seminal hit, Two Weeks, resulting in cheers from enthralled fans.
