Awolnation, Austin, TX ~ March 2, 2018

by Michael Mullenix

Friday, March 2nd, Awolnation landed at the Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin for a sold-out night of their biggest hits! A mix of Alternative-Rock, Post-Punk, and a bit of Synth-Pop, Awolnation is one of the premiere Rock forces touring today, and their headlining show at Stubb’s was a testament to this. Starting off the night on the titular track to their newest album, Here Come The Runts, the band transformed the Stubb’s stage with extensive strobe-light setups, throw rugs, and a cactus to cradle Aaron Bruno’s sombrero. The lion share of the band’s set was dedicated to Here Come The Runts with songs like Stop That Train, and Table For One, but fan- favorite anthems were peppered in between such as Run, Not Your Fault, and Kill Your Heroes. Aaron Bruno even managed to tell a heartfelt story not just about the first time playing in Austin years ago, but that it is was at Stubb’s Indoors and being surprised that anybody was sticking around for them. At the end of it all, the band naturally closed out on their seminal hit, Sail, bringing the night to a close on a crashing fist-pumping finale.
