Off Highway 290 in the heart of Dripping Springs, Texas is an old, little restaurant called the Nutty Brown café. Mostly unassuming, this side of the road diner happens to be a historic landmark in the pantheon of Texas Country Music, having once housed the essentials of the genre. These days the Café itself is a mask, hiding the enormous Amphitheatre in the back where up-and-coming Country Star Brett Young lit up last Saturday night on May 19th. Playing to a very laid-back audience full of BBQ and local Texas Beer, Brett Young took the stage on the song Close Enough and then onto Memory Won’t Let Me. From there the concert leaned into a softer, more sentimental direction. Brett Young’s brand of Country is less about the pumping up Dirt Road Anthems, but more about the tender ballads about the girls who broke your heart, or the one sweet one who didn’t. However, this was a show for the slow-dancing crowd who came to sway to songs like Like I Loved You, Beautiful Believer, In Case You Didn’t Know, and You Ain’t Here To Kiss Me. A night under the Texas stars came to a close with the coupling of encores Mercy and Sleep Without You.
