I Prevail and We Came as Romans at Vibes Event Center, San Antonio, TX, November 9, 2017
By Michael Mullenix

On Thursday November 9th at the Vibes Event Center the new generation of Heavy Metal was on full display as the co-headlining duo of I Prevail and We Came As Romans descended upon San Antonio. Up first, We came As Romans took the stage and launched into the title track to their latest album, Cold Like War. The band’s set was a curated selection of their 12 year run as Metalcore vanguards, picking hits songs from previous albums such as Ghost, To Plant a Seed, Regenerate and ultimately landing on their final hit of Hope. The band was even able to perform the cover of Glad You Came from The Wanted they recorded for the Punk Goes Pop 5 Compilation. I Prevail on the other hand is an interesting look at the 2016 release of the first full-length album, Lifelines, and the songs that caused their virtual over- night rise in genre. Despite the Brian Burkheiser being absent due to vocal chord injury the band played through an incredible 14 song-setlist, 10 of which come from Lifelines, three were covers, and Love Lust and Liars appeared on the band’s 2014 EP. Afforded the headlining slot the band put a wrestling ring in the center of the stage and their drummer on it. Unfortunately for such an elaborate set-up, they really never did anything with it; presumably any kinds of wrestling theatrics are impossible with the drums taking up a bulk of the mat. That aside the relatively young band brought their best on display and whipped the Vibes Events Center into a frenzy. Closing out the show on the song Scars, it was a fitting finale on a strong first impression
