Icelandic rock legends Sigur Rós brought their emotionally charged stage show to ACL Live at the Moody Theater for the first of two nights on June 9, 2017. Their subtle assault on the senses was equal parts aural and visual and ultimately satisfying. For over two hours the trio blended their lush, ethereal sounds with stage lighting that both pulsated and punctuated with subtle grandiosity. The night was divided into two parts and separated by an intermission. The first half was a beautiful slow burn while the second half was layered with striking illumination and spectacular impressionistic projections. The music was elegant and emotionally powerful, punctuated by bowed guitar and mournful vocals. It mattered not that the lyrics were in Icelandic or “Hopelandic” – the appreciative crowd hung onto every measure.
