This past Friday night, September 6th, Central-Texas Metalheads filled the sold-out Austin360 Amphitheater for the return of Slipknot and the Knotfest Roadshow. Setting off a cacophony after the lights went down, the curtain dropped in front of the stage and the band burst into the song People = Shit. Slipknot’s performance in 2019 is recharged, complete with new masks, new jumpsuits, more pyro, and a new tiered-stage set up that connects the custom percussion stations to the DJ stations, allowing Clown and the “New Guy” greater mobility. Plus, it cannot be overlooked that the band had new songs courtesy of the new album, We Are Not Your Kind, and featured All Out Life, Unsainted, and Solway Firth into the mix. To the uninitiated, the experience of Slipknot is the horrifying effect of being stuck in a foreboding Slasher flick that’s one part Nightmarish Circus and another part Asylum for The Criminally Insane. The music, the atmosphere, and the band screaming through classic hits like Psychosocial, Wait And Bleed, and The Heretic Anthem, are all a surreal hell-scape from another world. The beauty of Slipknot’s success is their loyal fanbase, lovingly referred to as the Maggots, who populate this insane scene. Slipknot has invited you to share in their landscape of crazy, we’re all in this together! Ultimately the band came back to the spotlight one last time and sent the crowd home with a fever pitch performance of Surfacing and Spit It Out.
