The SXSW Film Festival kicked off last night in Austin with the world premiere of Jon Favreau’s Film CHEF. The Red Carpet event was held at Austin’s Paramount Theater. Although both Sofia Vergara and Oliver Platt did not make it on to the red carpet, actors Emjay Anthony, Jon Favreau, John Leguizamo, and many others passed through prior to the movie’s premier screening.
The film CHEF is about a chef by the name of Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) who suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son (Emjay Anthony) to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen — and zest for life and love.
After the film’s screening, Favreau was joined on stage by Leguizamo, Anthony, and Oliver Platt (who plays a food blogger whose harsh review at the beginning of the story sends the chef into a tailspin) for a Q&A. When asked about the theatrical release of the film (it opens on May 9), Favreau casually responded “It’s going to be swimming in those same shark-infested waters as Iron Man did…and it’s not Iron Man.”
