Julio Iglesias has the women rushing the stage in Austin

Julio Iglesias performed at Austin‘s ACL Live on April 1, 2014. It was no April Fool’s joke that this 70-year-old Spanish heartthrob still has what it takes to make the women swoon, cry out and rush the stage to get a little closer and scream out for hugs and kisses.

Iglesias was in fine voice as he relied on his trademark light, lyric tenor and generous use of vibrato to deliver classics such as Manuela, Carusso, and La Gota Fria. With no opening act,Julio Iglesias first appeared on stage at 8 p.m. and performed for exactly 90 minutes. In between songs, he engaged the audience by recounting funny stories and reminiscing about his career.

He spoke honestly about his love for the ladies, reminiscing that ‘Before when I was young I was superstitious and couldn’t get on the stage without making love in my dressing room first. Now, If I make love first I can’t make it to the stage”… ‘But now all of that has changed… You ask which I prefer? Do I want to make love in the dressing room first or to come out here with you. You are wrong in what you think I will answer. I much prefer to come out here and make love to you and get paid for it.’

Although fans remained seated for most of the concert, all bets were off by the encore and security at the front of the stage had to use a little muscle to get the women to take a few steps back as they cried out and begged to get closer to the man who made them weak at the knees. Julio Iglesias still has that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes the ladies weep.
