On Thursday, October 1st, Alternative Rock/Country Artist Kody West received a warm welcome to the HEB Center as part of their socially-distanced drive-in concert series.

After dark, West took the stage to rounds of cheers from the tailgating crowd as he launched into his newest hit, Loose Ends. People in the crowd climbed on top of pick-up trucks and barbecued as West played through a selection of songs from his newest album, “Overgrown”, such as Alone and October.

West is an interesting artist to try and pin down style-wise; he is seemingly billed as a Country artist but simultaneously he wouldn’t be out of place amongst the lineup of early 2000’s Alternative Rock. One look at his hit Shine Out with its echoing guitar intro and persistent percussion feels right in line with the cover he performed of Incubus’ Wish You Were Here. After an hour-long set West brought the night to a close to rousing cheers on the song Million Miles.

Michael Mullenix
Growing up around the world, Michael developed a taste and appreciation for all styles of music. While studying film making at Boston University, he dove headfirst into a mosh-pit and never came out. It was in Boston that he combined his love of film and photography with his drive and passion for being a chronicler of the underground music scene. After graduation he headed to Los Angeles and for over a decade has worked with some of the top musicians and actors in the entertainment industry. Lured to Austin by the cultural explosion in the music and film scenes taking place there, he relocated two years ago and describes Austin as a cultural Shang Ri La!
