Friday night at the Haute Spot, Hard Rock veterans Saliva brought their down-tuned, fist-pumping performance to Cedar Park for a night of their greatest hits. The house lights dimmed as the band built anticipation before reaching the stage and launching into their classic fan-favorite Black Sheep. Saliva packed in an hour’s worth of solid material, grabbing recognizable gems from across their career, but their performance was… rough. Technical difficulties such as a microphone failing to pick up the first syllable of every line during the later songs like Your Disease was noticeable. Plus the band’s usual extravagant light show was for this run cast in a barely visible, dim glow.  This gave it more the feeling that they would break out acoustic guitars rather than slam into the full-throttled banger like Superstar. Looking past that, you saw a band that came with the best they had to offer. Looking at songs like Musta Been Wrong or Ladies and Gentlemen, Saliva is able to slowly build tension during verses only to erupt in a cathartic frenzy from the crowd once the chorus kicks in. At the end of the night, the band got everyone jumping around to the rebellious anthem, Click Click Boom.

Growing up around the world, Michael developed a taste and appreciation for all styles of music. While studying film making at Boston University, he dove headfirst into a mosh-pit and never came out. It was in Boston that he combined his love of film and photography with his drive and passion for being a chronicler of the underground music scene. After graduation he headed to Los Angeles and for over a decade has worked with some of the top musicians and actors in the entertainment industry. Lured to Austin by the cultural explosion in the music and film scenes taking place there, he relocated two years ago and describes Austin as a cultural Shang Ri La!
