After over 800 days since their last tour, UnderOath returned to the people as the band packed out the Aztec Theatre in San Antonio and gave metalheads a night to remember. The lights went down in the house as the crowd cheered seeing the dark figures onstage grab their instruments. Once singer, Spencer Chamberlain grabbed his microphone the strobes kicked on, and the new single Damn Excuses was the opening shot of the evening, sending mosh pitters into a flurry. This was an evenly balanced set from UnderOath, mixing in the new songs with familiar fan favorites in a balanced way. The intricate technicality of the new Hallelujah juxtaposed against the savage On My Teeth made this a thrilling show and kept the audience eating out of the palm of their hand. UnderOath’s performance was somewhat gimmickless, with plenty of strobes and smoke, but nonetheless delivered powerful moments with songs like Fault Line, Fault Of Mine, and In Regards To Myself. The highlights of the evening though, were the theater-wide sing-a-longs during Reinventing Your Exit and A Boy Brushed Red Living In Black And White. Without exaggeration, the audience recited every word of these Emo Anthems with crystal clarity. After leaving the stage, and letting the crowd chant the band’s name, it was time for an encore sendoff of the new song Thorn and old favorite Writing On The Wall.

Growing up around the world, Michael developed a taste and appreciation for all styles of music. While studying film making at Boston University, he dove headfirst into a mosh-pit and never came out. It was in Boston that he combined his love of film and photography with his drive and passion for being a chronicler of the underground music scene. After graduation he headed to Los Angeles and for over a decade has worked with some of the top musicians and actors in the entertainment industry. Lured to Austin by the cultural explosion in the music and film scenes taking place there, he relocated two years ago and describes Austin as a cultural Shang Ri La!
