Wicked: Broadway’s biggest blockbuster returns to Austin

After breaking box office records in 2009 and 2012, WICKED, Broadway’s biggest blockbuster, returns toAustin’s Bass Concert Hall from February 19 to March 9, 2014.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, WICKED, the untold story of the witches of Oz, is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello and features musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento.

I am thrilled to have secured WICKED for its third Austin engagement,” remarked Texas Performing Arts at the University of Texas at Austin Director and Associate Dean Kathy Panoff. “WICKED’s track record at Bass Concert Hall has been spectacular and we expect another extraordinary run. Few Broadway titles generate such repeat and zealous enthusiasm.”

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One – born with emerald-green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, and how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
